3DPX was born in 2013 in a popup store. We’ve grown and you can find us in a centralized storefront space at 333 N. LaSalle Street in Chicago. We are proud to be one of the premier additive manufacturing and design hubs in the country. We focus on being at the forefront of technology and bringing the highest quality results to all of our clients.
Meet the Founder
Julie is CEO and Founder of The 3D Printer Experience, working to realize the vision that digital manufacturing will change the world. She is passionate about emerging technology and accelerating it’s adoption – to make complex technology accessible to all. Julie thrives at the cutting edge of disruption. The 3D Printer Experience is the only storefront venue in the country that combines a versatile event space with custom 3D printing services, education experiences, and a community-oriented futurist perspective.
In her current role, Julie overseas the growth and strategic partnerships for the business, including an exclusive relationship with EOS the company that creates industrial grade parts using Laser Sintering technology. Julie is a regular key-note speaker and panelist including for TEDX, The American Bar Association, The International Manufacturing Trade Show, Inside 3D Printer Conference, and Women in Technology to name a few.
Prior to the The 3D Printer Experience (3DPX), she founded the company Hot Potato which created an International MPEG standard, to make all TV and Film video content searchable and indexable on the internet.
Since launching 3DPX Julie has been named by The Chicago Tribune as a top 100 innovator in the City. She’s garnered national and international media attention appearing in over 20 countries in print, radio, and television including The Today Show, Time Magazine, and a profile in Entrepreneur Magazine – she is also the published author of Encyclopedia Britannica’s year in review on 3D Printing.Before moving to Chicago, Julie produced and directed the Genesis Award winning documentary, Best Friend Forgotten staring actor David Duchovny, toured in stand-up comedy, and ran the TV and Film division for The Humane Society of the United States – implementing story-lines into mainstream media with the goal to effect change with empathy.
Meet the team
Chris Martinez is a business professional who studied business management at Northeastern Illinois University. He since has owned and operated businesses in outsourced sales and marketing for large telecom companies. At 3DPX he looks to use his knowledge of business combined with passion for technology to help grow the organization. Chris, a collegiate lacrosse player, loves sports and continues to incorporate athletics into his daily life.
Guangnan Wei (3D Print Specialist) studied industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design and the IIT Institute of Design. Wei first came to the 3D Printer Experience as a client trying to print a class project for which he later won a GrabCAD Golden Gear award. Wei specializes in creating designs for 3D printing.
Scott Sylvester graduated from Illinois State University with a political science degree and a minor in business management. After graduation, Scott developed his interpersonal skills through recruiting and business development. Since starting at 3DPX Scott has brought energy and focus to grow the business in line with our community values. He has a passion for helping client’s achieve their creative vision.
